From SJK(C) Han Ming to daycare: a parent’s pickup checklist

If your child attends SJK(C) Han Ming, try this before the first day of daycare: ask them to tell you, in their own words, where they’ll wait when the bell rings. “Someone will pick me up” is a start. “I wait with my teacher at the agreed spot” is a plan they can follow.

Red Dragonfly’s daycare in Bandar Puchong Utama is near Han Ming, and the centre describes school collection as part of its service. Start with your child’s year, school session and dismissal time. The arrangements that suit a neighbour’s child may be different from yours.

Walk through one ordinary school day

When you speak to the centre, use a real day from your timetable: “My daughter is in Standard 2. On Mondays, school ends at this time. What happens next?” Then work through these four questions.

  1. Where does my child wait? Ask for the meeting point and how to find it from the classroom. If possible, practise the walk together before the first collection.
  2. Who meets my child? Find out who is responsible at dismissal, how your child recognises them and how a change of adult is communicated. Red Dragonfly’s student transport page also mentions third-party providers, so ask which arrangement applies to your route.
  3. How will I know my child arrived? Ask whether parents receive an update, whom to call if you need to check, and who follows up if a child isn’t at the meeting point.
  4. Where do I collect my child in the evening? Get the exact centre location and ask how to authorise another adult. If a grandparent will do Friday pickups, arrange it before Friday.

Make a second plan for the day that changes

A co-curricular activity runs late. School dismisses early. Your child stays home sick. Pick the exception that’s most likely for your family and ask who needs to hear about it, by what time and through which channel. If school and daycare keep separate attendance records, check whether you need to notify both.

For a younger child, keep the backup instruction short and agree it with the school and centre: if the expected adult isn’t there, stay at the agreed supervised spot and ask the designated school adult for help. Practise that version just as you would the usual pickup.

A message you can send before enrolment

My child attends SJK(C) Han Ming and is in Standard __, in the __ session. We need daycare on __. On one of those days, dismissal is at __ because of an activity. Can you confirm which pickups are available, who handles the handover and whether there’s a separate charge?

You can send your school timetable to Red Dragonfly’s team to check the current arrangement. Once it’s agreed, put the meeting point, the centre’s contact number and the evening collector’s name in one place for the adults who help with your school run.
